What should I expect during acute care visits?

Acute care visits are designed to reduce any pain and treat minor injuries, infections, and illnesses. Stephanie checks your blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and other vital signs.

She completes an exam, potentially evaluating your limbs, abdomen, neck, throat, ears, or eyes. Stephanie may also assess your heartbeat and breathing.

Diagnostic tests you may need include nasal or throat swabs, urine testing, blood tests, heart function testing, breathing tests, X-rays, or additional imaging procedures.

Which acute care treatments are available?

Depending on your diagnosis and its severity, Stephanie may recommend one or more of the following treatments:

  • Watchful waiting
  • Rest and fluids at home
  • Intravenous (IV) therapy
  • Bracing, casting, or splinting
  • Wound care
  • Fracture care
  • Ice or heat packs
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Prescription medications
  • Specialist referrals

Some injuries and illnesses heal on their own over time without medical intervention. If you have a severe illness or injury, Stephanie may refer you to another specialist or hospital care. She follows up to ensure effective, long-lasting health outcomes.
